It was lots of fun to jump off the flight deck of the boat, 25 feet above the water, into the impossibly blue waters of the Med. I overcame my morbid childhood fear of swimming in really deep water mostly by ignoring whatever was beneath me. And whatever was below me responded in kind, leaving my poor exposed feet alone, whatever its temptations toward the opposite may have been.
