Nikon USA: D70 OutfitHere’s the digital camera I just bought! She’s a beauty. I’ll make sure to post some photos online when I start using her. This camera has been raved by many photographers as a surprise hit because of its very high level of quality at a low price point. The plan is to use this for about six months or so, then buy a Nikon D2X (http://nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2&productNr=D2X) and use this as my backup camera.

Using CSS, cool book!
http://www.sitepoint.com/books/css1/ Here’s a link to a cool site I found about using CSS (Cascading style sheets) in web page creation. CSS is the future of web design, as it allows web developers to write XML or XHTML and separate the content from the layout. This means that you can create pages without laying them out, as long as they’re well-structured. It also means pages that load faster, smaller, more lightweight browsers, and interoperability of web pages on all kinds of devices, from PCs to cell phones to internet-enabled refrigerators. Cool, huh?

Web Pages That Suck
www.webpagesthatsuck.com – Learning good web design with lots of bad examples. This site is mildly entertaining, but a definite candidate for random web site of the day. Which makes it a perfect fit for my blog, which is all about random stuff I’m interested in. The site features a lot of ranting about MMN, of Mytstery-Meat Navigation, which is a fun way of terming web site navigations schemes that leave the browser uncertain or unclear. Reserach shows that if a web user can’t find what they want on your site in less than 5 seconds, they will leave.
Enjoy,

Shinn Photography
Shinn Photography Check out (and re-check) the site promised to be the web’s coolest hotspot for visual imagery! This is THE place to find cool wall-bling. The black and white Lighthouse series should make a great addition to YOUR living room. Check this site in the next few weeks for major improvements; we’re told they’re coming soon!

Nikon Digital Website
Nikon D2XI can’t believe it! NIkon just released the new D2X, and it’s the camera for which I’ve been waiting the past several years. Amazing. 12.4 megapixels= A portrait camera in a workhorse body. I can’t wait to get my eyes behind one of these babies and blast away. Given the camera industry’s recent ‘arms race,’ most (all) camera manufacturers have been releasing cameras before working out all the bugs. I expect it’ll be the same in this case. But if history repeats itself as faithfully as it has over the past two years, Nikon will release a firmware upgrade (the software that powers the camera) in about a year and fix every problem. I can’t wait to try out this camera. Can you feel my excitement?!

Jon and Rach Move to England!
Jon and Rach Move to England! Jon and Rachel (my twin Brother and his wife) have a wonderful new blog they’ve created about their move to England. They are leaving today for the U.K. Jon will be studying in Oxford (he’ll be an Oxford Man) and Rachel will be hanging out, taking pictures, and maintaining their blog. Good for them!

Hot peppers: serrano, tabasco and cayenne peppers
Hot peppers: serrano, tabasco and cayenne peppers: “30,000 to 50,000” – The Tabasco Pepper is considered a Hot Pepper (Habaneros are very hot, by way of reference). They measure 30,000-50,000 Scoville Units (the unit used to measure the ‘heat’ of a pepper.

Tabasco Pepper – Herbs & Supplements – Drug Library – DrugDigest
Tabasco Pepper – Herbs & Supplements – Drug Library – DrugDigest I found this interesting little tidbit while I was searching for information about the Tabasco peppers we have growing on our back porch. Interestingly enough, I learned, Tabasco Sauce doen’t use Tabasco peppers, but red peppers of another variety.

Third Way Cafe – Mennonite Media
Third Way Cafe – Mennonite Media Mennonite Media may sound like a contradiction in terms to you, but there’s some press interesting stuff on this site. Consistent with Mennonite tradition, this web page contains a lot of thoughtful pieces on Social Justice issues. The commentary usually contains a thoughtful approach, but is a little incisive at points. It’s well worth the read.
